I had a PUR but it did’nt do anything for my water.
Common Types of Water Filters

In general, there are a few basic types of filters you may want to consider when choosing or piecing together your own unique mix of water filtration system. Understand what each type does and you’ll be able to economically create the right kind of water for you and your family.
First we have the sediment filter. Let’s face it, tap water has some larger particle we cannot see when it runs, and we might see when it settled in a glass. This can either come from the water source or any of the pipings on the way to your house, or even your own piping inside the house. Whatever it is, these bigger particles are caught in the sediment filter. The filter material in sediment filters are more coarse, trapping only the relatively bigger particles/sediments.
Another popular filter is the carbon filter. These are meant to take out chlorine, and can often times be found in the final stages of filtration, before the water is dispensed. Basically, chlorine is bad for you, and while it keeps the bacteria in the water in check, it’s a good idea to remove it before you drink it.
Other filters can fit between the previous two filters, to remove additional particles, depending on your preference, and this can change the mineral content and also the taste.
There are also UV filters and reverse osmosis systems, which are more advanced, and we will talk about those in another post. Have a great Valentine’s day weekend!
